Cameras at the ready – it’s competition time!
The Adventure Medic and Eco Medics have teamed up to bring you this exciting contest. Photographs have the power to tell a story, to start a conversation and to create change. With our planet suffering and nature fighting for survival, change is needed now.
The Adventure Medic magazine shares inspiring tales of travel and exploration for healthcare professionals interested in the path less travelled. Taking a year out in Australia, heading off with MSF, overwintering in Antarctica – we have you covered. Eco Medics puts healthcare professionals at the forefront of the response to the climate crisis with free educational events, an annual sustainable healthcare conference, ecoQIP templates and more. With that in mind, the theme of this competition is sustainable adventure.
Adventure in the outdoors is hugely beneficial to both our physical and mental health. However, with biodiversity loss increasing at an alarming rate, air pollution from long haul flights on the rise, and a rapidly warming planet, we can’t ignore the environmental and therefore wider health consequences of our actions.
We want you to capture the essence of this exact problem from behind the lens. You may choose to tell the tragic tale of a remote island ruined by plastic waste, to portray the hidden beauty of a micro-adventure in your back garden, or to inspire others with your human-powered experiences using shared, swapped and reused gear. Once you are behind the lens, you become the storyteller; we can’t wait to see what you have to offer.
We are also delighted to introduce our competition judge, Robbie Shone. As a National Geographic photographer who has been on some incredible climate research trips, including the Northeast Greenland Caves expedition in 2019, we can’t think of anyone better placed to help us select a winner.
